Preliminary comparisons between ice cloud microphysical parameters retrieved remotely using the SHEBA ice camp instrumentation and measured in situ from aircraft are presented. These comparisions are for the vertical profiles of cloud microphysical parameters measured during the aircraft spiral descent over the ice camp site. The retrievals use vertically-pointing measurements from the collocated Millimeter wavelength Cloud Radar (MMCR) and the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI) and the microwave radiometer. The compariosns show a decent agreement between remote and direct estimates of ice water content values and mean cloud particle sizes. The details of the retrieval method are given and the validity of the a priori assumptions are discussed.
