Another Look at MWR-Derived Values of Liquid Water Path During SHEBA

During SHEBA, substantial discrepancies between MWR-derived values of liquid water path (LWP) and in situ measurements from aircraft observations were found. A new microwave LWP algorithm is described here, that appears to work better in the Arctic environment than does the standard ARM retrieval algorithm. The new algorithm is described, and retrieval results are compared with the ARM (Liljegren) retrievals and aircraft-derived values. Reasons for the improvement are described.
