Aerosol Satellite Trading Card

Just like a book bag that is used to carry several books from home to school, a satellite is used to carry multiple instruments from Earth to space. The various instruments can be designed to contribute different information to help answer a scientific question, such as global warming, or each instrument may be designed to conduct its own scientific investigation with support from one or more of the other instruments.

The SAGE I instrument was launched in February, 1979, aboard the Applications Explorer Mission-B satellite. The SAGE II instrument was launched aboard the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS) in October, 1984. The SAGE III instrument is on board a Russian Meteor-3M(1) platform which was launched on December 10, 2001.
