Aerosol Activity: Baked Volcano Cookies |

Intermediate Level (5-8)
Objective:
The student will predict and identify the three types of volcanoes: Cinder
Cone, Composite, or Shield.
Safety Precautions:
The small baker's oven and cookie sheet will be hot when taken out of the
oven!
Instructional Delivery:
Whole Group or Cooperative Groups
Materials Needed:
- sugar cookie dough
- cookie sheet
- small baker's oven
- strawberry jam or preserves
- hot pad
- spatula
Instructions:
- Using chilled, stiff sugar cookie dough, shape a walnut-sized piece into a
volcano and place on a cookie sheet.
- Make a small depression in the top with your finger.
- Spoon a small amount of strawberry jam or preserves in the depression.
- Bake according to the recipe from the sugar cookie dough package or until
slightly brown.
- Cool completely and enjoy!
Discussion:
After cookies have baked, have the students identify the types of volcanoes
their cookies appear to be: Cinder Cone, Composite, or Shield.
