These July 11, 2006 images from the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) show then Tropical Storm Bud as it was intensifying toward hurricane status, which it acquired later the same day. The true-color nadir image at left is complemented by a map of stereoscopically-derived cloud heights shown on the right. The height field pictured here is uncorrected for the effects of cloud motion. At the time these data were collected, the storm center was located near 14.4°N latitude, 112.5°W longitude, about 1000 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, Mexico.
The image panels cover an area of about 380 kilometers by 986 kilometers, and use data from Terra orbit 34912.
MISR was built and is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, CA, for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Terra satellite is managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology.
