FIRE_ACE_UTRECHT_TOWER Readme File 1.0 Introduction This readme file provides information on the FIRE_ACE_UTRECHT_TOWER data set. This data set was obtained during the FIRE.ACE field campaign from the Utrecht University Tower deployed at the SHEBA site. The data were taken from April 4 - May 27, 1998. For more information on the FIRE.ACE Project, visit the following web site: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/ACEDOCS If users have questions, please contact the Langley DAAC Science, Users and Data Services Office at: NASA Langley Atmospheric Sciences Data Center Science, Users and Data Services Office NASA Langley Research Center Mail Stop 157D 2 South Wright Street Hampton, Virginia 23681-2199 U.S.A. An icebreaker was frozen into the perennial pack ice and left to drift for a full year from October, 1997 to October, 1998. The ship served as a floating scientific research station. During part of this time frame the FIRE ACE project was underway. FIRE ACE Aircraft flew over the SHEBA ice station site and collected radiation budget data. The FIRE_ACE_UTRECHT_TOWER data are from the Utrecht University Tower deployed at the SHEBA site April 4 - May 27, 1998. The parameters in the data set are listed below: Julian day hhmm temperature at 1.1 m temperature at 2.2 m temperature at 3.2 m temperature at 5.2 m temperature at 8.9 m relative humidity at 1.1 m relative humidity at 2.2 m relative humidity at 3.2 m relative humidity at 5.2 m relative humidity at 8.9 m wind velocity at 1.1 m wind velocity at 2.2 m wind velocity at 3.2 m wind velocity at 5.2 m wind velocity at 8.9 m wind direction at 3 m wind direction at 9 m downward shortwave radiation upward shortwave radiation downward longwave radiation upward longwave radiation snow/ice temperature at 5 cm depth snow/ice temperature at 10 cm depth snow/ice temperature at 20 cm depth snow/ice temperature at 30 cm depth snow/ice temperature at 40 cm depth These data can be compared with other FIRE ACE aircraft measurements also available from the ASDC.
