Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellites (ARCTAS)

Image representing the MISR project.

Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellites (ARCTAS) is an aerosol experiment taking place in the Arctic in March, April, June, and July, 2008. The ARCTAS mission, one of the POLARCAT (POLar study using Aircraft, Remote sensing, surface measurements and modeling of Climate, chemistry, Aerosols and Transport) campaigns for the International Polar Year, is aimed at learning more about the state of the Arctic atmosphere and reporting on the changes that have occurred as a result of pollution. The experiment contains four deployments.

Deployment Date Location MISR Definiton of Area
Lat-Lon Paths Blocks
ICEALOT March 19 - April 24, 2008 North Atlantic
Spring April 1 - 21, 2008 Barrow and Fairbanks, Alaska 64N - 71N, 148W - 157W 68 - 82, 164 - 166 32 - 38, 6
CARB June 18 - 25, 2008 California coast
Summer June 26 - July 31, 2008 Yellowknife and Cold Lake, Alberta 54N - 61N, 110W - 115W 36 - 48 39 - 49

The Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) support is during the Spring and Summer campaign deployments.
