Direction Model Index Selection for Scanner Measurements

Geotype (G) = 1 (Ocean) and fi = 1 (Clear) Then if fi = 1, INDEX = G
2 (Land) 2 (Partly cloudy) 2, INDEX = G + 5
3 (Snow) 3 (Mostly cloudy) 3, INDEX = G + 10
4 (Desert) 4 (Overcast) 4, INDEX = 16
5 (Land/Ocean)+

* Storing separate but equal models for land, snow, desert, and land/desert mix makes easier the generation of a scanner model index from cloud and geotype information.

+ These are linear composit models (50-50 for each constituent), not independent models, which function as separate scene types for scanner processing.

++ Snow geotypes must be either clear or overcast.
