GEWEX-RFA Data Set Description ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Project Title: GEWEX-RFA ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data product name: (ASRB_Ed001) 1) Contact for scientific questions about data Name: Dr. Rolf Philipona Institution: MeteoSwiss, Atmospheric Data Department Institution: Les Invuardes Institution: CH-1530 Payerne E-mail address: Rolf.Philipona@meteoswiss.ch Telephone: Fax: 2) What is the name of the original archived data set from which this GEWEX-RFA subset was produced? Alpine Surface Radiation Budget program (ASRB) 3) Is the original archived data set currently available from another data center or web site? Yes. If so, please list addresses or URLs: Original 2-minute data can be requested from Dr. Rolf Phillapona at Meteoswiss at the address in 1). 4) Brief data description: A reference or URL for the complete original archived data set documentation, followed by a brief summary of features of particular relevance to the RFA submission (such as gap filling method), is the preferred approach. (Items of interest: input data streams, name of algorithm used to produce data, start and end time of data, gaps in spatial or temporal coverage, and data quality issues, etc.). Site Location: 3-Letter Name Altitude Lat/Long ------------- ------------- -------- ---------- Cimetta CIM 1670m 8.48/46.12 Davos DAV 1610m 9.51/46.49 Jungfraujoch JFJ 3580m 7.59/46.33 Locarno-Monti LOM 370m 8.47/46.10 Payerne PYR 490m 6.57/46.49 Weissfluhjoch WFJ 2690m 9.49/46.50 Data are supplied for the GEWEX-RFA by Meteoswiss for sites listed above. Four of the sites are high altitude locations. They consist of 15 minute averages of 3 observations: ALWDN ASWDHEM ASWDIF Data are for the year 2004. Each individual file contains 15 minute averages for one variable for one year of data. Original data have temporal resolution of 2 minutes which were subsequently replicated to 1 minute resolution for the purpose of calculating 15 minute averages. Consequently a minimum of 8 minutes was required for a 15 minute average to be included in these time series. There was no filling of data gaps. GIF images are provided for each file but the image is of the annual mean diurnal cycle for that site for that variable. The annual mean diurnal cycle is calculated directly from the data provided. 5) History of updates and changes. If you resubmit a new version of any part of this data product to GEWEX-RFA, please use this space to record the reasons for the new submission (i.e., fixed error in ___ parameter; changed to area-weighted spatial averaging, etc.) Please specify the parameter(s) affected, new RFA number(s), and the date of the change. 2001 Jan: This file has been re-submitted to clarify the averaging of the 2-minute data. 2010 Nov: An error discovered in the ASWDHEM data files required correction and a re-load. ALWDN and ASWDIF are unaffected. New file names will end in "...RFA01.asc". 2010 Dec: CHange files name suffix from "...RFA01.asc" to "...RFA02.asc", same for gif images. 6) Please provide a list of publications and journal articles pertaining to these data (if any); or a link to a bibliography for the product. 7) If you would like a specific citation or acknowlegment when these data are used in a publication, please provide that here: If these data are used in a publication proper citation should be given, though one need only reference the site data used. For example if only ARM data is used then use only the ARM acknowledgment in the article, along with the ASRB reference (#5). When using ASRB data for publication use this acknowledgement: (1) Alpine Surface Radiation Budget program (ASRB) data is made available through MeteoSwiss. Also, if the article is published in a refereed journal please send a copy of the article to Rolf Phillapona at the address listed in 1). 8) Please indicate below all data types currently included in the GEWEX-RFA archive for this data product. A) Top of atmosphere data products _____ Maps (Parameters: list here) _____ Time series (Parameters: list here) B) Surface data products _____ Maps (Parameters: list here) _____ Time series (Parameters: list here) C) Ground-based measurements __X__ Time series (Parameters: list here) There are three variables for each site for all 12 months of 2004.
