Sub-Orbital Order Tool (SOOT) Power User Interface (UI) Release Announcement
March 25, 2021
The Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC) at NASA Langley Research Center has released the new Sub-Orbital Order Tool (SOOT) to enhance the accessibility of airborne and field campaign data. SOOT supports data discovery for users within the sub-orbital community. The creation of the tool also aims to promote sub-orbital research and analysis within the Earth science disciplines of radiation budget, clouds, aerosols, and tropospheric composition.
The inaugural release of SOOT introduces a Power User Interface (UI) intended for experienced data users and science teams with extensive knowledge of sub-orbital data. The SOOT Power UI has been designed with advanced search functionalities that address the needs of these users, which result from the multifaceted approach of sub-orbital data collection for multiple platforms, variables, Principal Investigators (PIs), and deployments. Robust metadata representation is therefore a key feature of the Power UI to enable these enhanced data search capabilities. The tool is built using a customized database that streamlines data ingest and metadata parsing, allowing users to discover data variables from multiple studies and/or platforms. Users can easily filter and browse airborne and field campaign data based on metadata attributes such as PI, platform, dataID (a unique data product identifier based on measured parameter/species, instrument, or model and prefixed by the mission name), deployment year, and start date. The SOOT Power UI allows users to extensively review their selected files in a streamlined user interface and allows the user to download their selected files as custom .zip files.
The continued refinement of SOOT will include the addition of data from more sub-orbital missions and the incorporation of merge download capabilities allowing end-users to download multiple variables from in-situ ICARTT files into a custom file.
Highlighted features of the SOOT Power UI are outlined and visually demonstrated in this ArcGIS StoryMap.
