SAGE III Data and Information

The Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) III obtains profile measurements of aerosol extinction, ozone, water vapor, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen trioxide, chlorine dioxide, clouds, temperature and pressure in the mesosphere, stratosphere, and upper troposphere with a vertical resolution of 0.5 - 1 km resolution.

 

The first of the three planned instruments flew on board a Russian Meteor-3M platform which launched on December 10, 2001 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The operational mission was curtailed by a failure of equipment on the spacecraft. SAGE III produced L1 and L2 scientific data from 5/07/2002 until 12/31/2005. The flight of the second instrument is as an integrated payload on the International Space Station planned for launch in late 2016/early 2017.
